white kid in the city schools....

it's not easy to communicate the excitement, fear, strangeness, and fascination that was my first day of high school. sheltered white kid confronted with minority status, a fellow 14 yr-old slams with two hands, legitimate break dancing, giant ass portable radios, tricked out chevettes - etc. etc. i think the early 80's were an amazing period for black culture.
